There are lots of things to consider when you are choosing the right forklift for your application. One of the first decisions you must make is what type of power your lift truck will run on…electric, LP, CNG (compressed natural gas), gasoline, or diesel.
While we will discuss the other types of power in separate blog posts, this article focuses on gasoline-powered forklifts.
Gasoline-only powered forklifts are pretty rare in the material handling industry due to the popularity of dual fuel forklifts and the lack of gasoline fueling stations, but we often have customers who want or need them for their application. Gasoline forklifts are mainly used outdoors.
Advantages:
Convenience – When refueling stations are readily available, conveniently placed, and able to accommodate the size of their fleet, gasoline-powered forklifts are a great option because the power is consistent for the entire shift.
Better visibility – Gasoline powered forklifts do not have an LP tank and bracket on the back of the forklift, which increases rearward visibility.
Power – Gasoline-powered forklifts are typically more powerful than their diesel alternatives and can provide increased travel and lift/lower speeds.
Disadvantages:
Lack of fueling stations – Few facilities have gasoline fueling stations on-site.
Environmental concerns – Gasoline is a non-renewable resource.
